Set Our Children Free

You can always judge the merits of a cause by the means used to advance that cause.  If lying and deceit are part and parcel of making the case, then the cause is unworthy.  On the otherhand, the truth needs no defense, nor does it need false advertising. It will eventually prevail – and it will prevail to the extent that we are willing to pledge our lives, our fortunes, and our sacred honor to it.  Keep this in mind as the presidential campaign heats up.  If a candidate and his surrogates continually lie, they can never be the right person for the job, even if their position on the issues agrees with yours, and despite any passion they inspire in you.  The reason is because morality and character count.  A liar as a candidate will be a liar as an officeholder.  And a liar is capable of much worse, because honor among thieves is a myth.  You are either a good apple or a bad apple, and an apple that is rotten in one spot is still a rotten apple because rot is contagious.

So how do you tell which candidate is playing fast and loose with the truth?  It is interesting to see some of the mainstream media pretend to “help” people sort out the facts by “researching”and reporting the “facts” on what candidates say.  I think this is funny because if you want the truth, the last place you’ll find it is checking with a compulsive liar.  Most of the media are classic poster children of bad apples, as they have long forsaken journalistic ethics, and are corrupt to the core.  There are some internet sources which I believe are reliable, but you certainly won’t find much unbiased news on your TV dial or your local newspaper, which just reprints the Associated Press’ take on the national news.

No, the only way you can tell if a candidate is dealing straight is to compare their views on the issues with an unimpeachable source.  Where can we find such a source?  Let’s start with the Bible.  If you believe in the Bible then this should be easy, because there are a host of politicians who say they also believe in the Scriptures, but do the opposite.  If they are lying, living a sexually immoral lifestyle, have no respect for life (in the womb or the nursing home), and voting with whoever gives them the most cash, then you know everything you need to know about them.  But what if you don’t believe in the Bible?  I can appeal to you to use the Constitution as a standard and vote only for candidates that promise allegiance to that document, which itself is based on natural law and Biblical principles of human rights and freedoms.  It is solely because we have forsaken these principles as a nation, that we have lost our way.  If you don’t believe in allegiance to either the Bible or the Constitution, you can stop reading now, because you don’t have any fixed standard of morality and you’re the type that will probably vote for the rotten apples. There are many of you out there, so if you wonder why we have bad government, now you know the answer.

I disagree. I think a person can lie and still be a good president. He can't tell people everything or they might panic. He's got to maintain national security.
